COMUNICADO DE IMPRENSA

O Departamento de Informação doUNIOGBIS vem por este meio esclarecer que contrariamente a uma notíciaveiculada nalguns órgãos de comunicação social, o Representante Especialdo Secretário-Geral na Guiné-Bissau e Chefe do UNIOGBIS, Joseph Mutaboba,não solicitou nem anunciou a vinda de qualquer Força das Nações Unidasà Guiné-Bissau.

Na sua intervenção no Conselhode Segurança, apenas enumerou algumas medidas tomadas por organismos internacionaise anunciadas através dos media. Sobre a CPLP, Mutaboba disse o seguinte:

“Por seu lado, a CPLP emitiu umaresolução a 5 de Maio, exigindo, entre outros, a reposição do Presidenteda República interino e do Primeiro-Ministro bem como a conclusão do processoeleitoral interrompido pelo golpe de Estado de 12 de Abril. De igual modo,apelou ao Conselho de Segurança das Nações Unidas para que imponha sançõesselectivas direcionadas a militares e civis implicados no golpe de Estadoe reiterou o seu apoio à constituição de uma força de estabilização mandatadapelas Nações Unidas e incluindo tropas da CEDEAO, da CPLP e da União Africana.”

UNIOGBIS Public Information Unitwould like to clarify that contrary to what has been disseminated by somemedia organs, the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Guinea-Bissauand Head of UNIOGBIS Joseph Mutaboba has not requested for or announcedthe deployment of a UN-backed force to Guinea-Bissau.

In his briefing to the SecurityCouncil, he nearly summarized what different international organizationshad published through the media. On the CPLP, he said the followings:

“For its part, the Community ofPortuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) issued a resolution on 5 May, demanding,inter alia, the reinstatement of the Interim President and the PrimeMinister and the conclusion of the electoral process that was disruptedby the 12 April coup d’état. It also called on the Security Council toimpose targeted sanctions on the military and civilians involved in thecoup, and reiterated its support for the establishment of a UN-mandatedstabilization force in Guinea-Bissau comprising troops from ECOWAS, theCPLP and the AU.”
